If you’ve ever posted a status update to Facebook from your iPhone or iPad, and wished the service would automatically listen out to recognise that faint noise in the background is actually the latest episode of Revenge, or CSI – there’s some good news, this week.

Updated recently, Facebook 10.0 for iOS will now (optionally) let you set the app to listen out for both shows or music that you might have playing in the background, then allowing you to “tag” these shows into your status updates, just as you did manually before the feature was announced.

“Upon updating the Facebook app, users are presented with an explanation as to how the feature works, and are given the option to turn it on. To utilize the new listening option, users can begin to create a status update, then click on the ‘mood’ icon,” reports AppleInsider. “The app will then begin listening to identify any content playing, and users can then select the song or TV show to quickly share it with their friend.”

As noted in the report the new feature is completely optional, and can be turned-off by tapping the ‘audio’ icon, now located in the top-right of the screen whenever posting a status update.

Facebook can be downloaded FREE on the App Store.
