On Friday, Austrian activist and lawyer – Max Schrems – filed for a class-action lawsuit against none other than Facebook.
The lawsuit accuses the global social network of (allegedly) colluding with the United States’ National Security Agency, to purposely and effectively ‘violate users’ privacy’ through the previously exposed ‘P.R.I.S.M’ data collection program.
Per MacedoniaOnline:
“Facebook has been given four weeks to respond to a class action, launched against it by an Austrian activist and supported by 60,000 users. The suit claims Facebook violated users’ privacy, by cooperating with the NSA’s PRISM program.”
The publication claims that the class action lawsuit, initiated by Mr. Schrems, and focusing on the privacy of the data Facebook’s own users share across the company’s ever-widening social network, has already passed its “first review” in the Vienna Regional Court.
Facebook Ireland, it says, “has been given four weeks to respond to the action.”
“Facebook Ireland will have an opportunity to ask the court to extend the time frame for its reply to eight weeks. If the counter-statement from the social network never arrives, then the court will be able to make a judgment in its absence.”
Facebook is yet to publicly comment regarding the ongoing legal case.
